Nine From the 9 Worlds by Rick Riordan

A tale from each of the nine worlds with Thor appearing in each, at least briefly, as he takes a run through the worlds so he can appear on a talk show.

This is a book that could be read aloud with pleasure.  Funny jokes, middle school crude moments and a few times you want to Clorox your brain.  Just picture Thor in Daisy Dukes, leather ones, running around, you get the need for bleach. :)

Magnus Chase - The Ship of the Dead

Book Three featuring Magnus Chase finds him basically killing himself over and over at the behest of Percy Jackson.  Luckily for Magnus, the pain is only for a bit until he wakes up again in Valhalla whole and complete.  Unfortunately, he will not have that option once he takes off on his quest to stop the Ship of the Dead.

Loki is trying to free the Ship of the Dead so he can go ahead and get started with destroying the Nine Worlds.  It is up to Magnus and his favorite Valkyrie, Dwarf, Elf and his einjerjar buddies to stop him before it is all to late and Ragnarok  begins.

Filled with Nordic mythology, a bit of mystery and plenty of adventure.   There is a little surprise relationship that develops that is very unique and made me stop and think but I really like the twist and am interested in where it will go.

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods by Rick Riordan

Percy goes through the twelve major Greek gods and goddesses in a gossip filled way.  Everything is not all brightness and nectar by any means.  In-fighting, back stabbing, cheating, love, abandonment and lots and lots of jealousy.

A fun read with plenty of sarcasm to keep things moving along.  It is not necessary to know about Percy and his history, he just serves as a narrator.

The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan

Magnus Chase has settled into his life in Valhalla, as well as anyone can settle into a life, or afterlife, of an einjher.  Then Thor loses his hammer, the one he rules the world with, the one that keeps the earth giants under control, you know, the important one.
The second novel in the Gods of Asgard series is very good.  Funny, fast paced and has a wealth of information about the Norse gods and goddesses.  Highly recommended and not only for the young adult reader.

The Demi God Diaries by Rick Riordan and Haley Riordan

A collection of characters from the Percy Jackson world.  All are well written and give us more information about the world of the Greek deities and their offspring.   The first stories are written by Mr. Riordan and as always they are enjoyable.
The last story goes in a different direction and was the best of the collection.  It was written by his son, Haley Riordan, a young writer that if he continues may do very well as an author.  The main character is not a demi god, just a regular mortal who does not believe in an afterlife and writes books about his theories and is a paid speaker on the same subject.  His world is rocked when he meets a demi god and then attempts to save him.
Best if the reader is familiar with the series but as a collection of short stories it is a stand alone read.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: Book 1 The Sword of Summer

Rick Riordan sends the reader into Norse mythology this go round and it is outstanding.  If you have read the Percy Jackson series, including the Lost Hero, there are several jokes you will get that just adds to the rampant humor in the face of death and potential dismemberment
Well written, fast paced, lots of surprises and an overall good read.  Yes, it is a Young Adult novel but all takes to be young is the right attitude. :)

The Last King of Texas by Rick Riordan

Tres Navarre is private eye that also happens to hold a Ph.D in English Literature which is all useful when a college professor is killed and he is asked to investigate.  Throw in the required bad guys, good guys and a mystery woman and a mystery is born.

The start is a bit rough, a little to much Spencerish settings but as the book goes on it grows and the last couple of chapters are really good which leave you willing to try another one.  After having read the young adult novels by Mr. Riordan I was not sure what I expected.  A bit more humor I think but not a bad read and I would be willing to try another one of his novels for adults.

Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Roman and Greek demigods are working together before Gaea, the Earth Mother can awaken.  It is a good thing as the gods are confused and are at war with themselves, struggling between their Greek and Roman aspects.

You know the drill, a quest, fights against giants, monsters, etc.  The best part though is the character development and the way things end for Nico made the book perfect. Pick it up and read it but of course it is better read in order of the series. ;)

The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

Book Four of the Heroes of Olympus

Greek and Roman demigods work together trying to defeat Gaea, the Earth Mother, before she wakes.  A quest, prophecies, random minor gods, you know the drill.

What I really liked is how the character of Nico de Angelo really develops along with Frank Zang, without either one doing anything on purpose.  Expect to see more from these two.

If more is told to much is given away, you just have to read it for yourself.

Mark of Athena

A wonderful blending of Greek and Roman mythology with that nice twist that Rick Riordan puts into his novels.  A sense of maturity comes from the main characters, something that has been developing throughout the series but is almost a focus in the current novel.

The changing narrarator keeps things moving along and helps the reader to view the story from multiple perspectives which puts a spin on a couple of incidents. 

My major complaint is we are left once again with a cliffhanger with the next page stating Coming in Ocotober 2013.  This is then followed by a really nice glossary of terms and characters which I had thought was another chapter of pages. 

Just let me know the pre-order date and I will buy in. :)

The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan

Book Three of the Kane Chronicles.

Sadie adn Carter Kane have just a few family issues.  Thier mother is a ghost, their father is now Osiris, the god of the Underworld, Uncle Amos has a very close relationship with Set, a almost bad-guy god, Sadie can and often does channel Isis and Carter can become Horus. 

Oh year, Aphosis wants to destroy the world and Sadie and Carter are destined to be the ones to prevent Chaos from occuring world-wide.
