Nightseer by Laurell K. Hamilton

The first novel written by the author of the Anita Blake series is really good at the end, at the start, not so much.  I kept thinking I had missed something important but going back I saw I had not.  It read like a sequel but after checking several times I am convinced it was the first one she wrote. 
Not bad, just to many characters that really had no part in moving the story forward.
